From Izmir (44 miles)
--Take Cesme Motorway, leave the motorway at Karaburun Exit, follow the road to Cesme Direction, pass by Karaburun junction, then Tepe Kahve, drive down the hill, take the first turning on the right where you will see a GUNKENT sign. This road will take you to the coast of Ildırı (Erytrai) through Barboros and Kadıovacık villages. Take the right turning, stay on the road for another 2 miles till you see the first houses of the Gunkent up on the hill. Turn left when you see the GUNKENT sign, after a few hundred yards you will be at the main gate of the complex.
--From Çeşme (Ilıca - Günkent = 11 miles)
--If you are coming from Cesme, take the road along the coast, and reach Ildırı (Erytrai), passing by Ilıca, Sifne and Germiyalısı, then follow the same instructions above, from Ildır to the Complex.
--Gunkent is a neighbor settlement to a fishing village called Ildırı, where a perfect combination of green and blue is observed. Erytrai, namely Ildırı today, one of the most important cities of Ionian civilization was founded in the 11th century B.C. by Cretes and Pamphylians after the Trojan War.
--The Amphitheatre was found in the first archaeological excavations carried out in the area from 1963 to 1966. Finding the ruins of the Temple and the 3 mile- long city wall followed. During the excavations, plates, cups and figures made of stone and clay from 7th and 6th century BC and human and animal figures painted white and blue representing the gods were found.
--This place is unique in the world with its nature and its history and very good for human health due to the high oxygen content of the atmosphere in this area. Since the area receives the refreshing breezes from the sea you wouldn't suffer from the dry Mediterrenian heat. The Sifne spa is very close to the complex.
--The flora reflects thypical Mediterrenian landscape. Olive and pine trees shelter shrubes and bushes.
--Ildırı is a typhical fisherman willage with 50 houses and under protection as it is situated on the ruins of Erytrai. Fishing and Arthichoke planting are the main incomes for the villagers. There are several authentic fish restaurants, where u can have fresh fish at very reasonable prices. Also a four star hotel, Erytrai gives an excellent service to holiday-makers in the area.
